I received an ARC of the book in exchange for an honest review.

I absolutely loved it. A rocking story. The main concept is way old—the Genie and the magic lamp in the Arabian nights, who grants three wishes to his master. But I liked the fact that more contemporary elements are woven into the tale. Ingrid while keeping the mystical and magical elements intact added just the right dosage of drama, romance, and action to keep my interest and had me glued to the book.

Marielle is a normal girl with regular problems. Her life is laced with one tragedy after another. She is broken, lonely, trying to keep herself from drowning in her sorrows. She is distrustful and yet still trying to hang on to the last threads of her sanity. Farris is the angel in disguise—the only one who can right the wrongs—but will Marielle trust him enough to accept her share of three wishes…

An enigmatic tale of love, revenge, and magic. A must read.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Okay, first things first – this is a really good, fun book to read. That said, I have to admit there were few ups and downs in the narration. Some places the flow of the story gets stuck with a phrase or a line that just does not come out well. You have to re-read it to get back to the story. I at times, felt that maybe like the main character Piper, the author too was thinking faster than what she was able to pen down and so you see the narration skip something and then move on.

But … once I settled into the story, these minor errors were completely forgotten. The story overpowers your thinking and you will forget everything else. There are so many amazing characters and the way the story is woven through their lives–is very enjoyable and engaging.

Piper is an intelligent, smart girl and it is a delight to walk with her as she experiences love & joy, pain and sorrow. The people she meets are vibrant, dynamic and full of life– even though they may not be good.

I felt that author Eris has done a remarkable job with this book and I truly look forward to reading the successive books in the series. Hopefully they will be as interesting as this one was.

Just an afterthought – the book needs a more attractive cover. At present, the cover hides a very good book behind it.

Dear Angel Ever at My Side

Dear angel ever at my side,
How loving must thou be,
To leave thy home in heav’n
To guard a sinful child like me.

Thy beautiful and shinning face
I see not, though so near,
The sweetness of thy soft low voice
I am too deaf to hear.

But I have felt thee in my thoughts
Fighting with sin for me;
And when my heart loves God, I know
The sweetness is from thee.

Then , for thy sake, dear angel, now
More humble will I be;
But i am weak, and when i fall
O weary not to me
