A Blessed and Merry Christmas to one and all!

I hope that this Christmas brings joy, happiness and warmth to everyone. I also wish that it grants strength and courage to all those who have faced or are facing difficult times.

May the Lord bless us all and keep us safe. May He also teach us to love and respect each other and may he take away all this anger from our hearts.

Stay safe everyone and enjoy Christmas with your family. 🙂

December is here, finally.

December is here, finally.

For me, this is the best month of the year. Not that I particularly love the fact that it’s cold all the time but I do love to snuggle under a blanket, all wrapped up — reading a book and enjoying a good hot cup of coffee. Also, I can eat all I want and hide my expanding waistline under layers of clothes. Fingers-crossed on it not showing on my face though. 🙂

December is best because it’s also the month of birthdays and anniversaries in the family,  so lots of parties to look forward to.  And of course, it’s Christmas. I have a huge, extended family; what with all the uncles, aunts, cousins, and their kids coming together, Christmas is usually a grand affair in my family. We get to all dress up and go for the midnight mass on Christmas eve, coming home to a late night of cake and coffee. It’s important for me because I get to share it with the people I love and care about.

On the party side, preparations have already started – well, at least for the rum cakes. Most of the dry fruits have been cleaned, cut (by me and mom this year) and soaked in rum.  Still have to cut some cherries, hopefully in the next two days I would be able to get it done and then add it to the rest of the stuff. We will then be set for the baking day. We’ve been able to book the 20th at the bakery so it’s gonna be one hectic day for all of us. Getting all the pieces home, safe and sound is a more difficult task.

But it’s all worth the effort. Stepping into the room with all that cake, is just heavenly. Very mouth-watering and the smell keeps me up all night. As kids, my sister and I used to try to sneak in to break off small pieces from the cakes to eat, without letting my parents catch us. Today, I am more concerned in making it all last till all of it has been distributed amongst friends and relatives — an age-old tradition here.

With all the other work I had planned to do, it’s going to be a busy month. There are many things that have yet to be done – cleaning the house is on top of my mother’s list and I can see myself  being dragged around in getting it done.

Anyway, what are your plans for these holidays ? Spending it with family or working on a pending project?

What’s your dream Christmas like? I’ve always wished for a white one.. maybe I’ll get to experience it some day 🙂

Take care everyone. Keep Smiling!!!! 🙂
