The Sire by M.S. Fowle

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

M.S.Fowle weaves a fantastical tale about a kingdom bereft of magik—ruled by a monarch who cannot see beyond his thirst for power. He searches for the Sire, the creator of all magik and in his quest unleashes terrible cruelty on his subjects. War rages and the people of the land live in fear. Magik is prohibited; those found practicing are captured and punished. Here the select few enforce their rule on the laity, to subdue and control them. Amongst this chaos rises a story of faith, friendship, loyalty and …. well magik.

I liked the author’s writing style – the flow is smooth and effortless, though at times I did find it a bit grand in some portions. I had to stop, take a breath and go over the lines a couple of times to let them sink in before I continued further.

The characters are very endearing especially the twins. As you read through you will definitely fall in love with Claire and Walter. They fight yet they stand by each other. They will make you laugh, cry, bite your nails in fear for their lives. You will find yourself enjoying their adventures and little skirmishes.

The end was not surprising yet I was disappointed by the quick closing and felt that it was a bit rushed. It kind of broke the flow that the author had maintained through the earlier chapters. But let’s be honest I was also sad that the story ended.

I thoroughly enjoyed the book and do hope there are more adventures of Walter and Claire and we read them soon. I received this book free from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Book Review: Piper LeVine, A Gypsy’s Truth by Eris Kelli

Piper LeVine, a Gypsy's TruthPiper LeVine, a Gypsy’s Truth by Eris Kelli

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Okay, first things first – this is a really good, fun book to read. That said, I have to admit there were few ups and downs in the narration. Some places the flow of the story gets stuck with a phrase or a line that just does not come out well. You have to re-read it to get back to the story. I at times, felt that maybe like the main character Piper, the author too was thinking faster than what she was able to pen down and so you see the narration skip something and then move on.

But … once I settled into the story, these minor errors were completely forgotten. The story overpowers your thinking and you will forget everything else. There are so many amazing characters and the way the story is woven through their lives–is very enjoyable and engaging.

Piper is an intelligent, smart girl and it is a delight to walk with her as she experiences love & joy, pain and sorrow. The people she meets are vibrant, dynamic and full of life– even though they may not be good.

I felt that author Eris has done a remarkable job with this book and I truly look forward to reading the successive books in the series. Hopefully they will be as interesting as this one was.

Just an afterthought – the book needs a more attractive cover. At present, the cover hides a very good book behind it.

Book Review: The Deception Dance by Rita Stradling

Couple of weeks back I stumbled upon this  giveaway by an author I had not heard of. Rita Stradling was sharing her book – ‘The Deception Dance’ in exchange for a review and greedy as I am 😉 for new books, I jumped right in at the chance.  To be very honest, the cover had not been very appealing. It was the blurb that she had shared that kind of drew me in.

A few days later her email came with  news that I won the book. When I read it, I was truly impressed. The lady sure packs a punch. Read on for more about the book.

Thank you Rita,  for sharing your work and I look forward to reading more about Raven. 🙂

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I got this book as part of a giveaway and I sure am glad that I got the chance to read it. This is a really good book. Very enjoyable, well-written, with a very clear storyline.

All elements that go in the making of an entertaining story can be found here. There’s action, drama, romance, magic, mystery, passion, fantasy, supernatural, the good old struggle between good and evil and much more.

The story explores the adventures of one Raven Smith and the ensuing battle between good and evil that weaves its web around her. I liked Raven’s character though many times she did remind me of Bella (Twilight).

The flow of the story is smooth and almost effortless that you would not want to put it down. Though I did find a few hiccups in a couple of places where I had to go back a few lines, but one can easily ignore these and enjoy the book. In no time I found myself close to the end of the book and it saddened me because I just didn’t want it to end. I was left with so many questions on what would happen next … would love to read more.

DD was a very interesting book and for those who love a touch of romance, passion and fantasy all-in-one, should definitely go on and read it.

I know you all have been wondering where I have been for the past few days (nearly a month, actually). Let me assure you, everything is fine. I have just been busy with things here and there, but that’s for another day.

PIPER LEVINE, A GYPSY’S TRUTH
PIPER LEVINE, A GYPSY’S TRUTH

Today, I have something else to talk about. I have been given the opportunity to host the blog tour & cover reveal of Eris Kelli’s “Piper LeVine, a Gypsy’s Truth” and with great pleasure I would like to introduce to you Eris Kelli —

Eris grew up in the Pacific Northwest as the youngest of eight children. Her writing is fueled by her love of adventure, learning and her drive to explore an idea. She now resides in Midwest America, with her husband, 2 beautiful children, and happy old dog. Currently she is fast at work on the third book in the Piper LeVine Series.

Please join me in welcoming Eris as she shares with us her thoughts on how authors should tackle one of their most difficult task – of finishing the book they’ve started writing.

How to Write a Book from Beginning to End

By Eris Kelli

The most popular topic for authors to write about is how to get published. It’s a great topic, but so many of us jump the gun. You will never, ever, ever publish a book no matter how awesome it is, if it isn’t finished.

So why haven’t you finished your novel? Here are some of my old reasons and other that I’ve been given.

–          No time.

–          My computer is having problems.

–          I’m still working on my outline.

–          I can’t get started.

Here is my advice and you can take it or leave it.

As far as not having time goes, if you can carve twenty minutes out of your day, then you have time. It’s true just hang in there with me, and I’ll tell you.

If you were to write one page a day without fail you would have 365 page book at the end of one year. Hey, it’s a book more than no book at all next year, right? And I believe once you get rolling on it’ll  be more than just a page a day.

The thing is if you really want to write you’ll find a way.

I am a busy mother of two. If I were to try to sit down at my computer while my youngest was about, he’d attack the keyboard. I had to write! So, I carried a notebook with me and wrote the old-fashioned way. Typing it later once my little ones were down for the night was a chore, but now I have Piper LeVine, A Gypsy’s Truth.

If it’s trouble getting started, don’t stress it. Just begin and keep going. Nothing is in stone. You can return later and perfect your beginning, middle, or end. I went back and re-wrote the beginning for Piper LeVine, A Gypsy’s Truth, six times and even more with other books I’ve written.

If this sounds like work, you don’t want to do than writing may not be your thing. If you love it and want it, then you have to do the work which comes after the book is written, believe me!

I had the best time writing, Piper LeVine, A Gypsy’s Truth. Not only did I get to go on a great romantic adventure with Piper, who is a fun young woman to tag along with, but I got to explore the Gypsy culture and experience magic!

My wish for you is a great writing adventure of your own. I hope you’ll get the chance to read Piper Levine, A Gypsy’s Truth and feel free to find me on Facebook and tell me what you think. Until then, happy writing and exciting reading.

Piper LeVine is the daughter of wealthy Senator, Harold and Katrine, or so she thought. When a stranger arrives in the night and throws her identity into question, Piper must uncover the secrets of her true origin.

Treacherous demons from a past she never knew she had are coming for her and only the Gypsies know how to deal with the monsters of myth.

Nicholas proves less than truthful from the get-go, but who can she hold onto amongst a sea of mystic if not hostile strangers? He is dangerous, captivating, and the only one who she knows that will stand against the creatures of the dark that seek her.

In search for the truth Piper will find more than her identity. She will discover her destiny, what she is made of, and the family that determines her fate.

The Mystery of the Missing Money by Paul Moxham

The Mystery of the Missing MoneyThe Mystery of the Missing Money by Paul Moxham

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This short story is part of a series written by the author on the adventures of 4 children, who because of their quick thinking and resourcefulness (in this book) go on to unravel the mystery of the stolen money and capture notorious felons while facing a rocky adventure.

The writing style of the author is simple and compact. The story moves fast, though there were places where I personally felt that a bit more detail and a smoother flow would have made is pleasant. The idea of the preface was nice but a little more history about the children, woven into the narrative, would have been ideal for a reader like me who is not familiar with the earlier books in the series.

I liked it, though I wouldn’t say I was hooked. I am an Enid Blyton fan and I may have been a bit biased while reading this book. The story reminded me too much of one of her books and I kept making comparisons between the two. Nevertheless, it is a good attempt by the author and children and adults will surely delight reading it.
